City of a Thousand Gods; The Story of Noah DaughterinLaw edition by Jeannie St John Taylor Literature Fiction eBooks

Ahh poor Atarah and anyone who wanted to worship the One True God and ONLY the One True God before the floods. I think this book was an excellent depiction of what our Lord intended to cleanse this earth of. Watching Atarah struggle with her faith, how God helped her along, protected his child to get her to the ark, it was amazing. In a time where she could have lost her life for worshiping "Crazy Noah's" God, where the world was filled with evil, with nephilim and giants, she managed to hold on to her faith, refusing to worship false idols, and taking the path God wished her to go on.

This book also made me aware of the idea of "Crazy Noah" as you know that's probably how they all felt, or they would have joined him in the ark. What outcasts him and his family became, but God showered his love and favor on them for their belief. I thank the Lord I live in a world today where I don't have to be afraid to practice my faith.

The story was interesting and held my attention, but there were a lot of strange word choices ("claustrophobic," for example-this word would not have been used as the condition had not been recognized yet. I think she used a colloquial term for vomitting, too, but I can't remember exactly what she used. These are just a couple of examples.) If you can get over the word choice and other grammatical issues, you may enjoy this fictional spin on the story of the Ark.
From the very beginning I was sucked in, and read the whole book in one sitting. This is far more than merely a story about one of Noah's daughters-in-law. Heartbreaking, insightful, and convicting, and as you read you can't help but feel you've gained an educated guess as to what it might have been like to live in that time! Good plot, interesting twists and turns in the story, and a happy ending!
It is a well written book and provides its own views on how things might have happened back in Noah's time. I have to admit that it occasionally kept me on my toes and I found it very entertaining. I think the ending is probably too predictable and a bit forced. I would have preferred a more natural resolution of the main conflict between Atarah and the people that pursue her.
I really loved this book. I couldn't put it down and stayed up late reading into the night. Positives- The scenes of the pre-flood world were so detailed and colorful and reminded me a bit of how Jules Verne wrote, conceiving an imaginary world but making it feel very realistic. The traits the writer gave Noah and his sons made them multi-dimensional and interesting characters. The writer made bold decisions about characters and situations that created tension that felt realistic. The tension throughout the book really worked all the way through. Negatives-There were 2-3 spelling errors, which is not much for a kindle book. There were 2 or 3 words that took me out of the book because they represented concepts that would not have existed during this time period. An example is the word,"claustrophobia." Overall- I really loved this book and I am hoping this writer is doing a series from each of Noah's daughter-in-laws' perspectives. I would definitely buy the next one!
This book showed such strength and courage and a faith beyond what she was taught to end up in the ultimate of being led to her room in the Ark just like each of the animals, insects and birds - they all knew where to exactly go in the ark, where their place was and It was no different for our heroine. That is what has touched me the most about this book - the trials we all have to face to prove ourselves worthy of being led to exactly where we should go and where we belong.
I really loved this story! The author uses perfect balances in her naration, adding colour in her descriptions. The story of Atarah and all she endures before the flood in following her deep resolve that God is Who He says He is makes for an exciting read. I also appreciated the love story that developed close to the end - not mushy or simpering!!
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the editing. There were a few spelling mistakes and some sentences did not run smoothly on the screen. As irritating as it can be, it most definitely did not detract from the story itself.
If you are looking for a well-paced read with good Christian principals and a strong dose of suspense thrown in, then you can't go wrong in loading this book on to your !
Factually I couldn't fault this book. The writer kept it within the bounds of what the bible has to say with regards to Noah's daughter-in-law. I thought that the author did a very good job with this story even down to the daily restrictions and existence of their lives, the temptations put in their way due to the different number of gods that the old testament had in those days, as well as the subservience that the daughter's had to deal with in their husbands homes. I also enjoyed her description of Noah and how he preached to the unbelieving towns folk. The culmination of this book was how the animals come together at the end and how they were cajoled and coerced into the ark etc. Fascinating!

I really enjoyed this book and would have no hesitation in recommending it for easy reading.
